AYSO EXTRA is a PROGRESSIVE PLAYER PROGRAM designed to provide a more challenging level of soccer for AYSO players who have the interest, skills and abilities. It enhances that player's experience and individual growth through soccer while retaining the spirit of and organization membership in AYSO. EXTRA is not designed to overshadow or harm the standard primary program - rather the goal is to strengthen AYSO by recruiting and retaining players and volunteers through providing more competitive play the AYSO way - all EXTRA programs embrace the Six Philosophies of AYSO.

AYSO EXTRA Tools and Resources

These documents and tools have been developed for use by approved AYSO EXTRA programs.  They are designed to assist Regions/Areas/Sections in building strong EXTRA programs and ensuring their success under the national guidelines. Honest, objective feedback will also be gathered to improve programs and to ensure continuation of excellent programming for our players.

No 8U players to be considered to play up.
No heading in division 12U and under
15U division will play the same calendar as Upper Division, currently 16 on a roster, but can have up to 18.
If 4 teams or less in a division then West and East will inter-play 3 away games.

Copies of tryout records and game cards will be collected by the EXTRA East Coordinator.  Regions are advised to maintain records.

Players eligible to participate in match play must be currently registered in AYSO and have  participated in a scheduled player evaluation at dates and times determined by the Region. Volunteers participating in the EXTRA program must be currently registered and accepted volunteers.
EXTRA Team Sizes:
15U 11-a-side, Max Players 16
14U 11-a-side, Max Players 15
13U 11-a-side, Max Players 15
12U 9-a-side, Max Players 12
11U 9-a-side, Max Players 12
10U 7-a-side, Max Players 10
9U 7-a-side, Max Players 10

Coaches must have completed the AYSO training levels below including AYSO Safe Haven and Concussion:
a. 9U/10U Division - 10U and 12U Coach Certified
b. 11U/12U Divisions - 12U and Intermediate Coach Certified
c. 13U/14U Divisions - Intermediate and Advanced Coach Certified
d. 15U Division and Up – Advanced with National Preferred
e. Training requirements address the age appropriate training environment in conjunction with more advanced training session plans and activities aligned with technical and tactical awareness of the player.

Referees must have completed the AYSO training levels below including AYSO Safe Haven and Concussion:
a. 10U Basic – Regional
b. 12U/13U/14U Intermediate
c. 14U to 18U Advanced or National
d. Recommended to be one badge level higher than the above with experience in positive sideline management
